Bluey Book Advent Calendar

Bluey Book Advent Calendar 2026: 24 mini-books and a Christmas Eve story

The Bluey Book Advent Calendar 2026 lines up 24 mini-books behind its 24 windows, one for every morning of December. Each day, your child opens a window and pulls out a short illustrated story to read or be read. That adds up to 576 pages across the whole bundle, and the book of the 24th is kept back as a special Christmas story for Christmas Eve. No chocolate, no toy: just Bluey, Bingo and the whole Heeler family, in a gift-sized box.

The Ladybird touch behind this calendar

This bundle is published by Ladybird, the Penguin Random House imprint that has been making first books for small children for generations. The stories stay short, the words stay simple, the artwork stays faithful to the series. That is the promise on this kind of title: a story a three-year-old can follow to the end, and a bedtime read that wraps up in a few minutes. It is the same calendar sold in France and Australia, so the format is a known quantity.

What’s inside this Bluey book calendar

Twenty-four mini-books, and nothing else: no figure, no sweets, no accessory to assemble. The box comes in a gift format, each window holding one illustrated storybook. The titles pull from everyday Bluey adventures, with named stories including BBQ, Hotel, Cricket and Hide and Seek, and the 24th door saves a festive tale for Christmas Eve.

Content value: not disclosed by the publisher, and the mini-books aren’t sold separately, so any figure would be made up. What I can do is take the launch price across the 24 windows: that works out at roughly £1.04 a book, which puts this calendar at the mid-range end for a book advent calendar.

This 2026 edition next to last year’s

Bluey comes back to this calendar again. Last year’s box was the standard 24 mini-book collection, built on everyday Heeler stories with no Christmas thread running through it. The format doesn’t move: 24 books, 576 pages, same Ladybird imprint, same £25.00 launch price. What changes is the hook. The ‘Hooray, Christmas!’ edition ends on a dedicated Christmas Eve story and leans into the festive countdown, where the earlier bundle was a year-round story set. Families who owned the previous box get the same principle with a December twist.

My verdict on the Bluey Book Advent Calendar 2026

This is a calendar that knows exactly what it is: 24 books, not a toy. The promise holds. A child who watches the show gets Bluey, Bingo and the family back every morning, and parents get a ready-made reading ritual for all of December.

What I like is the real volume behind it. 576 pages split into 24 little books don’t go in the bin on the 25th; they move to the shelf and get read again all year. As Ladybird puts it, you ‘return your books to each window so you can reuse the Advent Calendar every year’, and that reuse is a genuine point in its favour over a chocolate box.

Where it falls down is the narrow audience. A child who doesn’t know Bluey will miss half the fun, and anyone hoping for something to eat or build behind each door will be let down. It’s aimed from age 3, with reading best up to 6: past that, short picture stories lose their pull fast.

• For families who already watch Bluey and want a calm, screen-free countdown with no sugar or plastic.
• Not one for a child who expects a toy each morning, or who has never met the Heelers.
