Behind 24 doors, the Prym Advent Calendar 2026 hides the materials to make 8 Christmas decorations yourself, from a felt reindeer to a macramé snowflake and a button-tree greeting card. Six techniques run through it, sewing, knitting, crochet, weaving, macramé and gluing, and everything is included, right down to the scissors and textile glue. Each make comes with a step-by-step video tutorial you reach by scanning a QR code, so a smartphone does the explaining. A limited 2026 edition for teens and adults who’d rather spend December making than unwrapping.
Prym Advent Calendar 2026: 8 makes behind 24 doors
The Prym Advent Calendar 2026 does something most craft boxes don’t: behind its 24 doors you won’t find finished objects, but the materials and step-by-step guidance to make 8 Christmas decorations yourself. A felt reindeer, a mini knitted jumper, a macramé snowflake, a card with a button Christmas tree, each one builds up over several days as you open the right doors in the right order.
Six techniques run across the eight projects: sewing, knitting, crochet, weaving, macramé and simple gluing. The variety is the point, you rarely repeat the same gesture twice. This is a limited 2026 Christmas edition, and at a mid-range price it sits between a token craft kit and a full hobby bundle.
What’s inside the Prym DIY Advent Calendar
Every door hides tools or materials you build up over the month. Everything you need is in the box, right down to the scissors and the textile glue: red felt, balls of wool, needles and thread, ribbons, wooden beads, weaving hoops, kraft cards and buttons. You buy nothing extra to finish a single project. One practical catch, each make comes with a step-by-step video tutorial you reach by scanning a QR code, so a smartphone is needed, there are no printed instructions in the box.
The eight finished makes are shown on the back of the box: a felt reindeer, a mini knitted jumper, a macramé mini tree, a macramé snowflake, a wool angel, folded red stars, a woven hoop ornament and a greeting card with a button tree. All of them hang on a tree or work as a small handmade gift.

A guided project kit, not a sewing-box top-up
If you’ve bought a Prym calendar before, read this line first: this is a different product from the older editions. Those were essentially a haberdashery haul, a set of buttons, pins, needles and notions to stash in your sewing box and use whenever. The 2026 edition swaps that for project materials plus a filmed how-to for each make.
That shift cuts both ways, and it’s worth being honest about it. If you wanted a restock of craft supplies to dip into all year, you’ll be disappointed, the felt and wool here are portioned for the eight projects, not for your drawer. If you want a ready-to-follow activity that fills the whole of December, this is exactly the turn you were hoping Prym would take.
My verdict on the Prym Advent Calendar 2026
What wins me over is the honesty of the format. The real purchase here is the hours you spend making, backed by videos that stop a beginner giving up halfway through a macramé snowflake. Across 8 makes and 6 techniques there’s enough change of pace to keep December interesting, and nothing is left out, the scissors and glue being in the box is the detail I didn’t expect and liked most.
Two honest reservations. First, as I said above, it’s much less of a haberdashery box than Prym calendars used to be, so check that’s what you actually want. Second, the whole thing leans on a smartphone, with no printed guide, half the appeal falls away if you can’t scan the QR codes comfortably. Put another way, ‘you’re paying for guided time, not for stuff‘, and whether that’s good value depends entirely on how you like to spend December.
On the numbers, the sum is reasonable for what it is: at the mid-range launch price, that’s roughly £5.33 per finished make once you divide across the eight projects, or about £1.78 a door.
- Not for you if you wanted a reusable stash of sewing tools and notions to keep.
- Worth it if you want to make, step by step, and hang eight one-of-a-kind decorations on your own tree.
Prym, two centuries of haberdashery
Prym is one of the oldest names in sewing and haberdashery, the buttons, press studs, needles and pins that most crafters have owned without noticing the brand on the packet. Its press-stud fastening is a genuine piece of everyday design history, and that craft-tools heritage is exactly why a guided make-it-yourself calendar sits naturally in its catalogue.
What’s new here is the teaching: Prym isn’t just supplying the materials, it’s walking you through each make on film. The brand you reached for when a button fell off now wants to hand you the whole project, start to finish.
